If you are aged between 16 and 19 years old you can apply for an Endeavour Card, enabling you to receive a minimum of 25% discount off full price adult bus fares. Further information on the scheme is available below.

Yes, the Endeavour card is available to apply for now.

Who is the card available to?

The card is available to all 16 to 19 year olds.

Do I have to live in Suffolk or be in education to be eligible for a card?

No, anyone aged 16 to 19 can apply for a card.

Will I be charged for the card?

No, at the moment the card is currently free of charge to apply for.

Is a discount available?

Yes, there is an guaranteed minimum discount of 25% off full price adult bus fares only (although some operators may offer additional discounts).

When is the discount available?

You can use your card at anytime, 7 days a week for single or return adult fares on participating bus operators services.

Is the discount applicable to student or multi trip tickets e.g. 10 journeys

No, generally the minimum discount is only applicable to full price single or return adult bus fares (some operators may offer additional discounts, please check before travel).

Which buses can I use my card on?

Does the Endeavour Card replace the post 16 discretionary travel scheme?

No, the Endeavour card is not designed to replace the post 16 discretionary scheme, both schemes will be available to those over 16 years of age.

Applying for a card

How do I apply for a card?

If you are aged between 16 and 19 you are eligible to apply for an Endeavour card.

You can apply up to 1 month before your 16th birthday and no less than 1 month before your 20th birthday.

There are currently 3 ways to apply for an Endeavour card:

The Endeavour card has a 20 character name limit (including spaces) so if your name exceeds this limit please advise how you would like your name to appear on your card.

All application forms will require a passport sized photograph and proof of age via birth certificate, passport or driving license.

Please don't send original proof documents, send photocopies only.

Suffolk County Council can't accept any responsibility for items that are mislaid in the post. No documentation will be returned.

Cashless payments and card top ups

Can my card be used to pay for my fare via cashless payments?

Yes, if you have a 16 to 19 year old Endeavour card you can now pay for your bus fare using cashless payments with the following bus operators only:

Please note that all other operators in the scheme will continue to accept the card as a "flash pass".Cash will be required to pay the discounted fare.

How do I top up my Endeavour card?

Online

You can top up your Endeavour card using our online shop.

Please note that you must register your card prior to your first top up. Please have your 18 digit card number and post code available.

Cash Top Ups

You can also top up your card with cash or debit card to get instant credit at the following establishments:

PLEASE NOTE - You MUST BE A STUDENT at these establishments in order to use this facility.

Can I get a refund if I top up my card in error?

Yes, we will issue a refund for top up transactions made in error.

In order to complete refunds, the Endeavour card must be returned to the address below with a covering letter:

Your card will then be read and a refund for the remaining balance on your Endeavour card will be issued to your payment card within 14 working days.

Your Endeavour card will be returned once the refund has been made. If you do not wish to be without your card during this time, a replacement can be ordered (please note an administration fee of £10 may be applicable).

I have a 16 to 19 year old Endeavour Card, am I entitled to a discounted fare on Park & Ride?

Yes, if you have a 16 to 19 year old Endeavour card you can receive a discount off single adult return journeys only.

16 to 19 year old Endeavour cards can also include smartcard journeys in blocks of 10, however the 25% discount will not be applicable.

If you received a 16 to 19 year old Endeavour card before March 2014 and would like to add smartcard journeys in blocks of 10, please advise Suffolk County Council as a new card will be required.

I have lost my Endeavour Card, can I get a new one?

If you lose your pass, please contact our information line on 0345 600 0659 for guidance on what to do next.

Please note that in line with the terms of use, a replacement fee may be applicable.

Using your card on the bus

How do I pay for my journey using cashless payments?

In order to pay for your fare using cashless payments please follow the steps below when boarding the bus:

  1. show the bus driver your valid Endeavour card
  2. advise the driver of your destination and fare type (adult single or return)
  3. the driver will select your fare on the ticket machine and advise the appropriate fare
  4. place your Endeavour card on the ticket machine reader to pay for your fare
  5. the driver will issue you with a ticket and you may take your seat

Cashless payments are currently only available on BorderBus, Coach Services, Galloway, Ipswich Buses, Simonds, Stephensons and Suffolk Norse services.

How do I pay for my journey using the card as a "flash pass"?

In order to pay for your journey using the card as a flash pass, please follow the steps below when boarding the bus:

  1. show the driver your valid Endeavour card
  2. advise the driver of your destination and fare type (adult single or return)
  3. the driver will select your fare on the ticket machine and advise the appropriate fare
  4. pay for your discounted fare using cash
  5. wait for your ticket and take your seat
